I believe that the more you learn, the better you are equipped to understand topics that require an open mind. I believe that where you get your information from may not always be as accurate as it should be. I believe that people who watch Fox News are being mislead.
I spoke to a friend of mine the other day about Rupert Murdoch and the response was, "Who's he?" Can you believe it? This is coming from a very intelligent woman whom I have the most respect for. But not everyone pays attention to details that are hidden right in front of you.
The details? Rupert Murdoch is an Australian born media mogul that owns the Twentieth Century Fox Studio, Fox Network, and 35 TV stations that fall under the News Corp. umbrella (which he owns) that reach more than 40% of our country. His political views are blatantly "Right" and he uses his puppets on Fox News to let Americans know all about our history and what's best for our country.
An Australian with Right Wing views teaching Americans about our Constitution through Glenn Beck? Hmmm... go figure!
Is that pot of caffeine ready yet?
I need something a lot stronger than coffee to watch Fox News. A better name would be Fox Propaganda.
ReplyDeleteI find it so strange that in Jr. High, I couldn't wait to take "Government" in school, and actually thought I might study political science. But hormones, a premature marriage and family, and other pieces of life dwarfed that interest. More than 30 years later, I am still ignorant. Thanks to your piece, I now know who Rupert Murdoch is (I had at least heard the name). I haven't watched the "news" in years and hearing about "RM" means I haven't gone too far wrong!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're one of the smart people JC!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you stopped by Big A! The more you know... and right now, I know I need a cup of caffeine!
ReplyDeleteit is strange for political junkies like us to hear those friends, family and neighbors say they have no clue who our vice president is let alone Rupert Murdick (misspelled on purpose). Some people just go about their simple lives and don't care one bit about politics and what goes on in our government. I have a 33 yr old daughter who is apolitical, she is about to move back home with me and I will have her hooked in know time! Ya think? Nah, probably not...LOL!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your daughter Sue! I think politics is a maturity thing. I was not the least bit interested and didn't care one way or another who was President and then I became a Mom. I need a cup of tea to reflect...
ReplyDeleteWE political junkies forget that most people really aren't that into it.
ReplyDeleteI've always used the example of the Mom from Seattle that has 12,000 blog followers and a book contract for blogging about taking her kid to preschool and dog for a walk.
1.2 million people will watch Bill O'Reilly tonight. 9 million will watch a rerun of House on USA they've seen 8 times.
I like coffee. I drink lots of it.
I wish your blog success and alertness.
AAAAGGGGH! I hate comment moderation!
ReplyDeleteAT 101, I'm so happy you stopped by! 12,000 will read about a Mom walking her dog... great, just great. That's what America needs, mindless reading entertainment with no values attached. What a waste of time! Might as well be alphabetizing my underwear drawer! Cream and sugar?
ReplyDeleteHow very refreshing! Finally, someone who puts the media moguls in their place! I think personally that more of us should focus on addressing important issues ourselves in the way WE think is important so media moguls will be less and less powerful and increasingly marginalized.
ReplyDeleteJittery...I once dated someone who practically alphabetized their sock drawer, as well as his freezer. I respectfully take issue, however, with your judgement of "mindless reading entertainment with no value attached"...as sometimes mindlessness is necessary in order to handle the intensity of a completely mindful day. I enjoy watching Glee, or Pushing Up Daisies, or Bones...because I can simply be entertained without having to squeeze particular meaning out of everything...which I do with most of my wakeful hours. Sometimes my intelligent brain just needs a break that doesn't involve physical movement. Coffee anyone??
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input JB. Off to grab another cup...
ReplyDeleteNot a CP- I don't like mindless reading, but mindless watching entertainment with no values attached... I'm so BUSTED! Man vs Food RULES! Yes please, I'll take you up on the coffee!
ReplyDeleteJust because Fox has a different view than ALL the other TV stations, it doesn't mean it's wrong. And certainly the alphabets are owned by large companies also. It doesn't make them bad. And if you think they don't push their own propaganda, you are sorely misled. But people are so accustomed to their slant of things, they may be intolerant to someone who opposes their slant - the lone conservative voice in mainstream media. Truth is, we need both. Listen to both. Weed through the propaganda on both sides. Don't shut off opposing views.
ReplyDeleteTrue, true A. I absolutely agree with listening to all sides, and I do believe there are agendas for ALL media. But when the truth comes out about specific ideas in what that media corporation stands for, then I have to call BULLSHIT. And I call BS on Rupert Murdock. I need a decaf...
