With internet access so readily available and an abundance of free blog sites enticing aspiring writers, becoming a published author has never been so easy. There should be numerous writers that have something good to say, but lately, I'm needing a magnifying glass to find substance in the words that I read. Sifting through the many shallow and pointless blogs, I am frustrated by the lack of content in what I am looking at and mad at myself for actually waisting my time.
Then there are the social blog sites that try to mimic a community feel, but with topics of 'Do You Drink Tap Water? Or Are You Stuck on a Bottle?' (This is a real discussion, you can't make this stuff up!), the intelligence aspect is simply not there. If you happen to come across a discussion that has any umph to it, commenting with clever use of words usually indicates that you are smart, or so you would think. But behold!...Smart commenting is unappreciated by those who are, well, mediocre. They just don't get it and are offended when you put some value to what is being said. Maybe I should offer them my magnifying glass!
"Waiter! Refill please!"

Transparency, it's a Good Thing

I know I am not always on top of current events. Thank goodness for my husband and blogs like Momma Political for keeping me updated on the latest and greatest on topics concerning our country. My latest update really bothered me. The conversation was about the Supreme Court ruling known as Citizens United. Why does this bother me and why should we care? Grab a cup of coffee and settle in with me for a few minutes while I attempt to explain what troubles me.
Basically, in Mommy speak, big corporations are now allowed to donate as much money as they want to campaigns and be considered an individual. Why should this bother us? Because you, and me, our neighbor down the street and all our friends are individuals. Do we have money like big corporations? No. So if we decide we like candidate X and want to contribute $20 for the cause, the Big Cs can donate as much money as they want for their candidate and be apart of the election process. But here's a hard kick to the shin, big corporations aren't necessarily AMERICAN corporations! There are many other reasons that bother me about this topic, but we'll take it one step at a time.
I need a refill.
In the news today, President Obama is asking that there be at least some transparency for this bill. To let the American people know who donates to whom and how much, is there anything wrong with that? Well, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell thinks so, and he is quoted by the Associated Press, "By focusing on that partisan effort to rig the fall elections rather than the stagnant economy, Democrats are proving once again that the jobs they care about most are their own," said McConnell "It's a transparent effort to help themselves ahead of an election in which they clearly can't run on their record."
Wow. The President is now rigging elections because he wants Americans to know where candidates get their money. Wow.
Okay, I'm up to date for now. I hope you are too.

Still No Health for our 9/11 Heroes

Last night my heart was in my stomach as I watched the imagery on the TV screen. The archived footage of all who filmed that tragic day will remain in my memory always. I wanted to talk to the screen and tell them not to go in, as I know how the story ends. The firefighters walking into the towers of the World Trade Center will never know that they will not return.
Those who survived were covered in a layer of white so thick that they could barely breathe. The footage showed them hacking and gasping for air as their lungs were filled with what was once a skyscraper.
Nine years later, these men and women will never be forgotten, or will they? It seems our politics are getting in the way of the needs for these fallen heroes. You have cancer now? Ah, well, too bad. And we're not going to pass a health bill for you either.
The Republican party said, "NO!" to these 9/11 Heroes. For a party that claims to be Patriots, I see nothing American about it.

Controversial

Ok, so I have to say it: sometimes I wish that certain people were not on the earth. Sometimes there are people who cause so much pain and destruction that I believe the world would be a better place without them. And then...my conscience kicks in, and my Christian upbringing, and my positive attitude and my guilt. And then I remember all my own faults. And then I pray for forgiveness. But it doesn't help. I still wish that I could rid the earth of certain people who cause so much pain that I cannot figure out what good purpose they serve here. And then I get it...this place is a testing ground...a testing ground of all that we hold dear, all that we struggle with, all that we agreed to before we were placed here on this amazing and horrible place. And finally, I realize that we are all flawed, and that above it all I believe that goodness (overall) prevails...and that there is hope...and ultimately, that what goes around comes around, and that making that happen is not my job, thankfully, because I would be sitting on death row right about now. Deep breath. Deep, deep breath.

Thought for the Day...
If we want a nation with smart people to make smart choices, we need to start with our children. My cup is empty, time for a refill...
