A Christian Nation?- Part 2

In my last post I touched on the topic of "Separation of church and State."  I'm not done with this subject, as it is extremely important for everyone to understand the history of these words so they may vote accordingly in the up-coming elections.

It disturbs me that there are those willing to change our perspectives based on lies. They can do this because most Americans don't know our history. I am guilty of forgetting what was taught to me in high school, and 25 years later, I'm still guilty of not remembering the date or the name of an event that is so crucial to American Politics today. I have since cleared out the cobwebs in my brain and gathered and reorganized so I may have maximum capacity to relearn what was once a, "Why do we need this stuff anyway?" attitude.

So with this confession a new door opens. A doorway to the past that I may enter and come out a more knowledgeable citizen, recognizing the lies of today. The big lie that is being propagated by the Tea Party, wether unintentional by not being informed or those in the party just simply mislead, is that our politics and religion have become intertwined and tangled up in the up-coming elections.

Christine O'Donnell asked the question, "Where do you find it in the Constitution that talks about Separation of church and State?" Is she kidding? She is right. It does not in fact state those exact words, but words that maybe she doesn't understand. The exact words in the Constitution under the 1st Amendment says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." This is fact number one that we are not a Christian Nation.

Fact number two? Well, that would be the little piece of paper known as the "Treaty of Tripoli" or officially called, the "Treaty of peace and friendship between the United States of America and the Bey and Subjects of Tripoli, of Barbary." And guess who the Bey and subjects are? Algiers, a Muslim Nation. This in fact was our Country's first treaty with the Muslim Nation and in Article 11 of this treaty it was written, "As the Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Musselmen; and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

The intentions of our Founding Fathers is clearly stated in published writings throughout their lives authored by Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Payne to name a few. Their views were transparent and the concept to divorce religion from government was an idea that they all agreed upon. Not only did they agree, but most of these great men did not participate in the Christian religion, but wanted to make sure that no matter who you worshiped, you were free to do it and the government had no say.

I hope after reading this you come out of the doorway with a new understanding and that you too can recognize what the truth really is.

I need a BIG pot of coffee!

A Christian Nation?

Good Morning Class! Today we will talk about our Founding Fathers intentions for religion in the United States. Are we a religious country as those in the media portray? Is the Tea Party accurate in their claims that the United States is a Christian Nation? Are we living up to the phrase 'Separation of church and State'?

We will answer those questions with two little words... Article 11. What is Article 11 and where do we find it? Article 11 is in the Treaty of Tripoli which was signed by President John Adams on June 10th, 1797. Quiet down class, I know this is new and you obviously have many questions. Oh look, we've run out of time...

We will continue with this lesson next time. In the meanwhile, please be familiar with the northern region of Africa as we explore what was once known as the Barbary Coast. Until then, class dismissed!

Rupert Who?

I believe that the more you learn, the better you are equipped to understand topics that require an open mind. I believe that where you get your information from may not always be as accurate as it should be. I believe that people who watch Fox News are being mislead.

I spoke to a friend of mine the other day about Rupert Murdoch and the response was, "Who's he?" Can you believe it? This is coming from a very intelligent woman whom I have the most respect for. But not everyone pays attention to details that are hidden right in front of you.

The details? Rupert Murdoch is an Australian born media mogul that owns the Twentieth Century Fox Studio, Fox Network, and 35 TV stations that fall under the News Corp. umbrella (which he owns) that reach more than 40% of our country. His political views are blatantly "Right" and he uses his puppets on Fox News to let Americans know all about our history and what's best for our country.

An Australian with Right Wing views teaching Americans about our Constitution through Glenn Beck? Hmmm... go figure!

Is that pot of caffeine ready yet?

Being Homosexual

Every time I hear or read of someone, anyone, who has taken their own life because of their homosexuality, I am devastated; sick to my stomach; incensed; moved to tears. I want to reach into the realm of beyond, gently pull each and every unjustly shamed child/person who felt that being a homosexual was so unacceptable that they had to die, and pull them close in a giant embrace, one that would not only have the power to give them their life back, but also would immediately and magically erase all the atrocious lies they were told about themselves and their sexual orientation. Furthermore, this "beautiful new life" hug would suddenly empower them to cut ties with anyone who could not accept them in their entirety, who would so cruelly judge them. This hug, with amazing positive energy pulsing through it would also provide them with a completely new life, one replete with acceptance, love, understanding and belonging. There would not be a trace of any religious dogma or talk of the "sinful nature" of their orientation or their unGodly "choice." Because of what they endured while living, and what they felt they had to do to escape the horrors of being on this earth, their beautiful new life would keep them safe forever, never to encounter the horrors of judgement from people who are flat out wrong to disparage their very being. Join me in envisioning the precious boy who jumped off a bridge recently (because of being exposed as gay) coming backwards out of the water, only to encounter love, acceptance, and a brand new life? My heart aches, and I offer a plea and humble prayer that we who are living will do everything in our power to educate our children differently than these poor children were...that we will be part of a revolution of love that eradicates the horrors of judgement towards the homosexual.

Christine O'Donnell, You're not me!

I saw the Christine O'Donnell ad last night.  You know, the one where she says, "I'm you."  I really don't want someone who talks about blood on the altar saying she's me.  I really don't want someone who believes, "Scientist have created mice with human brains.", and then claim she is me.  She is NOT me.  I am NOT her.  Period.  Coffee please!

We Need More than Superman...

Education in America is big news this week.  I don't really understand why it's big news this week.  The education system has been deteriorating for quite some time and it's big news every week as far as I'm concerned.  I guess with all this media coverage, there is not one parent out there that can say, "OH, I didn't know the school system was so bad!"

Come on America, it really is all about the kids.  We need our kids to be smart so they can make smart choices that eventually one day they will make smart choices for our country.  We need them to know their math so that they can figure out if they can afford that home, or not, before they sign on the dotted line.  We need them to know their American History (World History would be nice too!) so that way they can see through the tall tales of the "Wile E. Coyote" network.  Ooops, I meant the other dog!  Okay, I'm going off the path...

Is our K-12 school system to big to fix?  Should we just start all over?  Or maybe have an alternative option for schooling?  What are your views and how would you fix it?

Here are a few links that I've been checking out...
