Why are the Republican politicians so adamant about not raising the debt ceiling? They raised it 7 times under Bush Jr., they didn't have a problem raising it under Reagan. Hmmm... all Republican Presidents... Can anyone else see through the thick haze of stench that is clouding over the truth of our Nation's economic future? That stench?... Grover Norquist. What does Grover have to do with our financial woes and the debt ceiling that has been in the news night and day? Let's get to know Grover a little better shall we?
Grover is a non politician, a friend to the big corporations, and he has come up with a stupid, unAmerican pledge that ALL Republican politicians must take and promise their loyalty to Grover and his corporate backers. If they don't take this pledge, Grover and his posse will make sure that they are never elected again. This pledge is not to the President, not to the taxpayers, and not even for the good of our Country. This pledge promises no new taxes and makes sure that the big corporations get BIG tax breaks for using their corporate jets. We all like the idea of no new taxes, but when the Republicans talk about no new taxes, they're not talking about tax breaks for Mom & Pop down the street, they're not talking about tax cuts for you and me, they're talking about tax breaks for the big corporations that generates billions and billions of dollars. These companies give their money to Grover to ensure that they can do business anyway they want without paying their fair share of taxes and get breaks and loopholes to escape paying what they rightfully owe. Can we say Citizens United?
I need a pot of decaff right now!!!!!!
Grover is actually trying to, singlehandedly, bring down our government! It's his pledge so I put all the blame on him, as for the thugs who signed it, well they need to lose their jobs, they are accomplices to a crime, a crime on our democracy!!
ReplyDeleteI despise those Republicans!
Sue Darling, why don't you stop over at my place and I'll fix ya a nice cup of giggles to take your mind off these darn politicians! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe debt ceiling has been raised 78 times since 1960, mostly by Republican presidents. It was never something that was supposed to be argued over.
ReplyDeleteWe are only 1 of 2 countries in the world with an artificial debt ceiling. Other countries don't limit themselves, financially, in this manner. Congress only created it (way back) simply as a means to streamline the budget approval process... if the president's budget fit under the ceiling, then Congress didn't have to spend extra time debating it. But also, as times change and inflation hits and wars and recessions happen, Congress fully expected the debt ceiling to be raised with approval and with little argument, as it has 78 times, previously. Bush funded his wars by raising the debt ceiling.
So now the tea partiers are saying we cannot raise the debt ceiling to help our own people.
It's upsetting and it's a highly ignorant stance. And so many in America are buying that raising the debt ceiling is bad without knowing this is a normal and healthy process as our country moves through time. The tea partiers purposely create strife in our country. They see villains where there are none. They point fingers just because they love to point fingers. They are causing other countries to doubt our ability to handle our finances, which hurts our economy big time!
If there is a problem in our country, then I point my finger at the Tea Party. And I say to normal Republicans (like many in my family who hate the tea partiers) it's time to stand up against them.
MM, that was a great explanation. It is amazing to me that the GOP will allow themselves (and all of us) be held hostage by the TPers. I find it even more amazing that the more the President gives, the more Boehner has demanded. Great explanation of the process - thanks for that!
ReplyDeleteI am with you completely, as always, Sue! :) And my dear ExpressoSelf, this was a great post. Citizens United, indeed! Tie that in with the voter suppression laws that the GOP is passing in the states, and they'll be running the table the next election cycle. Keep fighting the good fight, GF!
Sue, you never sugarcoat it my friend! Love that about you!
ReplyDeleteWow MM, I see you had your pot of caffeine while writing that little doozy! But my finger doesn't just point to the Tea Party, it points to all those (GOP & Dems) that don't take a stand, just like you wrote. This small group of American terrorist is a bully in the school yard and everyone seems to be looking in the other direction.
MP, Glad to have you around and on the side of he "Good Fight", coffee?
I think a big problem these days is group-think, the tendency for people to follow each other mindlessly, even corruptly. That is what gives rise to dangerous policies and politicians (and non-politicians like Grover Nordquist) -- people too cowardly, rigid and/or unimaginative to break the ranks. How can people be so inflexible and selfish? Thanks for writing about this guy. I have been hearing a lot about him.
